Automatic Watering Device Using Micro:bit

My project for CS 2026 is an automated watering system which uses the micro:bit microcontroller. This simple system monitors soil moisture using a sensor. When the soil becomes dehydrated, the system automatically activates a pump, sending water to moisten the soil. With this system, it can simulate real life environments in drought stricken areas. This device could be vital for farmers worldwide in areas with limited resources who require irrigation systems, while reducing water waste and still hydrating crops and plants adequately.

Why my project is important:

Soil monitoring in agriculture is absolutely vital not only for scientific research but also for farmers worldwide, with the UNCCD reporting around 82% of farmers worldwide are affected by drought annually. With systems just like this one, we can help monitor plants to improve plant health while also helping to reduce the number of people affected by drought and save water.

What my website contains:

My website covers every requirement needed for the project, including investigations and meeting the brief. It also contains a video of me demonstrating the device on how to operate it in the sections above and more.
